The Ammu Joseph Collection currently contains 179 Eve's Weekly magazines. Eve’s Weekly began publication in 1949 in Bombay (now Mumbai), published by the Somani group. This collection brings together magazines between the late 1970s and early 1980s. The magazine is an invaluable historical record of post-Independence India’s print culture, gender politics, and middle-class social life. Published for several decades and widely read across urban India, the magazine documented changing ideas of femininity, work, marriage, fashion, domesticity, sexuality, and citizenship. It brought together journalism, fiction, advice columns, photo-features, advertisements, film coverage, and reader correspondence, offering historians rich insight into the everyday worlds and aspirations of women readers. The magazine is also significant for tracing the development of women’s journalism and feminist public discourse in India, especially in the decades before the expansion of television and digital media.
